Clover has been counting down the days along with gunslinging partner Joss until she can get rid of the bait magic trapped inside her. Together they’ve fended off hoards of bloodthirsty wilds, and they’re looking forward to less chaotic roads ahead.

When the extraction procedure leaves her without control of her own magic, Clover and Joss have to put their plans on hold, and spend even more time with the researchers they have a troubled past with.

With Clover’s magic fully on display, in a society that can be vicious toward people like her, Clover relives her not-so-distant past and wrestles with guilt over whether she deserves a happy life. Is there a fix for her out-of-control magic, or is she cursed to live as an outcast?
